A Magical Autumn Escape: Knole House & Finding My Inner Child Again An unforgettable countryside day trip from London, filled with history, wild deer and a little childhood magic.
There is something about autumn in England that feels incredibly magical. The golden leaves, the crisp air, the beautiful historic houses and those cosy little moments that make us appreciate the simplest things in life.
A few weeks ago, I escaped London for a lovely day trip to Knole House and Knole Park in Sevenoaks, Kent. And what a beautiful discovery!
Just around 30 minutes by train from London, Sevenoaks is the perfect destination for anyone looking to enjoy the English countryside without travelling too far.
A Little Fairytale in the English Countryside
Knole House is a magnificent historic estate filled with beautiful interiors, fascinating stories and centuries of history.
I absolutely loved exploring the house and the Gatehouse Tower, but my favourite moment was reaching the rooftop.
The views were breathtaking! And the most magical part? You can see the wild deer wandering through the park from above!
It genuinely felt like stepping into a fairytale.
After exploring the house and tower, a stop at the charming Brewhouse Café is an absolute must. There is nothing better than a lovely coffee break after a countryside adventure.
Perfect for Everyone, Including Solo Travellers!
Whether you’re visiting with your family, your partner, a group of friends or simply enjoying your own company, like myself — hihi! — Knole is a wonderful place to spend the day.
I particularly love these spontaneous little escapes. No flights, no complicated plans, just a train ticket and the excitement of discovering somewhere beautiful.
Finding the Little Girl in Me Again
What made this day so special wasn’t just the beautiful surroundings.
It was the feeling it brought back.
These cosy countryside adventures always remind me of my childhood, when everything felt exciting, every little discovery was an adventure and happiness could be found in the simplest moments.
As we grow older, life becomes filled with responsibilities, worries and endless plans. Sometimes we forget how wonderful it feels to experience the world through a child’s eyes.
And that’s exactly why I treasure these little trips.
They remind me that the little girl inside me is still there — curious, excited and ready to discover the magic in everything.
Perhaps growing older isn’t about leaving our childhood behind, but learning how to find its wonder again.
And on this beautiful autumn day in Sevenoaks, I found a little piece of mine.
If you’re looking for a magical day trip from London, add Knole House to your list.
Sometimes, the most beautiful adventures are closer than we think.
With love,
Alexandra xx
