Always There, Always Loving: Celebrating Dad, Our Hero

This Father’s Day, I want to shine a light on the most incredible man in my life — my father. My sister Ifigeneia and I have always affectionately called him our "boyfriend," a silly nickname that only underscores how much love and admiration we have for him. He’s more than just a dad, he’s our protector, supporter, comedian, and the pillar of our family.

My dad is the epitome of strength. He’s a very, very strong person — mentally, emotionally, and physically. His energy seems endless, always ready to lend a hand or a word of encouragement. But what truly stands out is his caring nature. He’s the dad who always encourages us to spread our wings and fly high. No matter our choices, he’s supportive and open-minded, at 71, looking forward to life’s new adventures and always asking about my boyfriends — even without meeting them! His humor shines through in these moments, as he jokes that they’re not worthy but claims he’ll meet “the one” when the time is right.

He’s an amusing and loving father who holds our hands through life's ups and downs. From running errands to buying toiletries (which I find amusing and adorable), he’s always there for us. He loves sharing funny stories about his past, especially those involving his ex-girlfriends from various islands and cities. These stories bring laughter and warmth, reflecting his light-hearted spirit.

This past summer, we lost our beloved mother. It’s hard to imagine life without her, and I wonder if my dad will ever fully recover from this loss. But what I know is that he will always cherish her memory and love her devotedly. During her long days in the hospital, he was her rock, unwavering in his support and love. Mom and dad were truly a power couple — best friends, partners, lovers. Their bond was a shining example of true love, and my mom’s words echo in my heart: she knew she found the right father for her children in him.

Growing up, I used to believe that one day I would find someone just like my dad—someone strong, caring, and full of love—to marry. I imagined that feeling of safety and unconditional support in the person I would choose. My mother, wise and loving, would always smile gently and tell me, “That’s not possible, sweetheart. Your partner won’t be your dad.” She explained that while my father is extraordinary, my future partner will be different — just as unique and special in his own way. I guess, in a way, my dad spoiled us — making us feel like princesses with his endless love, support, and even his funny stories. Maybe that’s why my sister and I always carry a bit of that fairy-tale magic in our hearts. And honestly, I think he’s set the bar pretty high for the love I seek in my own life!

Despite the sadness of recent times, my dad remains our hero. He’s the one we look up to, who inspires us daily. I want him to know that he will always have me and Ifigeneia — holding his hands, telling him that everything is okay, and promising that we will forever be his strength.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad. You are our hero, our example, our friend, and the most loving father we could ever ask for. Thank you for everything — for your love, support, humor, and for being the incredible person you are.

With all our love,

Alexandra and Ifigeneia
