Autumn State of Mind: Cosy Living, Little Luxuries & an Easy Seasonal Recipe

There is something about autumn that makes everyday life feel a little more comforting.

Colder mornings, darker evenings, candles burning at home, deeper-coloured flowers and the return of knitwear all create that unmistakable autumn lifestyle feeling. After the spontaneity of summer, autumn is about slowing down and enjoying home again.

A Few Autumn Touches for the Home

You do not need to completely redecorate for the season. A few thoughtful autumn home décor pieces are enough.

Think scented candles, soft throws, ceramic mugs, flowers in burgundy and burnt orange, small pumpkins and warmer textures.

For beautiful seasonal pieces, I always like looking at The White Company for candles and cosy home accessories, Zara Home for tableware and decorative pieces, H&M Home for affordable autumn details, and Anthropologie for something a little more playful and unusual.

A beautiful mug, a new candle or fresh flowers can completely change the feeling of an evening at home.

And as Halloween approaches, you can add just a few fun details rather than turning the entire house orange. Small pumpkins, candlelight, a seasonal wreath or even a little ghost ornament can be enough. John Lewis, Anthropologie and H&M Home are always worth browsing for subtle Halloween inspiration.

The Easiest Autumn Recipe

Autumn also makes me want to cook simple, comforting food — and this is one of the easiest recipes.

I originally made it with zucchini, but you can really use whatever vegetables you have. I have also made it with sweet potato and red pepper, and it worked beautifully.

Easy Zucchini & Feta Bake

You will need:

  • 1 zucchini, or vegetables of your choice

  • 4 eggs

  • Feta cheese

  • A little mozzarella for the top

Optional: add a spoonful or two of yoghurt if you want the mixture slightly creamier.

Simply grate your vegetables, mix them with the eggs and crumbled feta, add the yoghurt if using, transfer everything into a baking dish and finish with a little mozzarella on top.

Bake until golden and set.

That is it.

You can replace the zucchini with sweet potato, peppers, spinach, broccoli or whatever you already have in the fridge. It is the kind of easy recipe that works for breakfast, lunch or a simple dinner with salad.

And Then Comes Halloween…

By the end of October, autumn becomes a little more playful.

Light the candles, buy the pumpkins, bake something sweet, watch an old horror film and enjoy it. Halloween does not need to be elaborate to feel special.

Autumn passes quickly, and perhaps that is what makes it so beautiful.

Enjoy the cosy evenings, wear the knitwear, buy the flowers, light the candle you have been saving — and make the ordinary days feel a little more special.
